Shane Urton

Shane is a Belgian-American choreographer based in Belgium. He began dancing at 15, then graduating 3 years later from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Shane’s 16+ year career as a professional dancer started at the Joffrey Ballet (2009-2014), the Royal New Zealand Ballet (2014-2016), Norwegian National Ballet (2016-2019), & Opera Ballet Flanders (2019-2025). Shane now focuses on developing his choreographic voice as a freelance maker. Shane is Resident Choreographer for Springboard Danse and movement instructor for the University Luca School of the Arts in Leuven, BE for 2026. His work has been invited to perform in the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition, Tanz-Labor Ulm, the International Ballet Gala Geraardsbergen, and Belgian national platforms such as VRT, Toot Sessies, and Klara Radio. Shane has made work with the collaboration of the iconic Panamarenko Foundation & Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in the 2025 Choreolab. He believes that dance is a tool to be applied to various kinds of projects - therefore he uses a malleable style. He’s inspired by makers in his career: Jiri Kylian, Crystal Pite, Ina Christel Johanessen, Marcos Morau, Jan Martens, Anne Teresa de Keersmaekers, Wim Vandekeybus and others.
