Friday night’s gala, Moonlight Masquerade, moves in a more mysterious and elegant direction than last year’s Old Hollywood edition. The fourth annual gala still features performances by DanceAspen, a flash mob, and the crowd-pleasing American Bandstand competition.
DanceAspen’s performance begins with an excerpt from a piece Wheeler Opera House commissioned Gilmore to choreograph to honor the venue’s rich history and capture the spirit of the Aspen landmark. Gilmore decided to depict regrowth, based on the Wheeler burning down in 1912 and rebuilding. The piece includes the backdrop local artist Andy Millner created, as well as a special work by Millner as part of the silent auction, which closes a couple days after the gala.
