Ihsan Rustem

Ihsan is Artistic Director of Cie. La Ronde (founded 2020 with Cathy Marston) and Resident Choreographer for NW Dance Project, where he will revive ‘Yidam’ and create ‘Piaf’. His collaborations include Nederlands Dans Theater 2, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, and Sao Paulo City Ballet. Nederlands Dans Theater named him an Up & Coming Choreographer for 2018/19. His NW Dance Project work has won accolades: ‘State of Matter’ won the 2012 Sadler’s Wells Global Dance Contest and Public Prize at the 25th International Competition for Choreographers Hannover, and ‘Carmen’ received Dance Magazine's 2017 Readers' Choice Award for Best Collaboration. ‘Rustem’ received the 2014 Hubbard Street Dance Chicago International Commissioning Project. He is former Director of the Ballettschule Luzern and a jury member for Prix de Lausanne (2021), Concorso Internazionale di Danza Città di Rieti, and the Dance World Cup. From 2000-2014, he danced with Ballet Theater Munich, Introdans, State Theater Bern Ballet, Tanz Luzerner Theater, and Adventures in Motion Pictures, originating roles by Wayne McGregor, Hofesh Shechter, and others, and working with choreographers like Mats Ek and Jiri Kylián. He lives in Zurich, Switzerland.
